A lot of the original is lost with modernization. I totally defer to your expertise on the story and accuracy. Here's how I saw it, but I certainly am not into Tarzan like you ate. I certainly didn't hate this movie - and there are way worse Tarzan movies out there - but it definitely didn't capture the feel of the original stories, in my opinion.Īll very good points. This makes no sense as Kala losing her ape baby was the reason she adopted baby Tarzan. The movie once again changes Tarzan's origin for no good reason, adding a foster brother ape. In the books Tarzan barely needed an excuse to strip down to a loincloth and leap into the jungle, yet here he doesn’t get into his trademark loincloth until the final shot of the movie. Since when is Tarzan not a fan of Africa? Jane ends up having to convince the Lord of Apes to return home.Īt one point we see Tarzan running through the trees fully clothed and still wearing his bloody boots on. When asked to return to Africa Tarzan is reluctant. We never go there or even hear about it again. The movie mentions the Lost City of Opar and then does nothing with it. That does not even remotely pass the smell test. I've read every Tarzan book - multiple times - and have seen pretty much ever Tarzan film and television show, and though this is far from a bad movie it doesn't quite capture the Tarzan I know. The books by Burroughs were pulp adventure tales that aside from the rare moment of Tarzan fighting Germans during The Great War they didn't delve too much into human history. I'm not sure how true to the "Tarzan Tale" the Legend of Tarzan can claim to be.
